International Nanotechnology Symposium - "Automated Virus Detection and Analysis for Applications from Oncology to Bio-Weapon Defense"

July 28, 2009 --- 9am-4:30pm with reception following

Presentations Available for Download!

The symposium will gather experts from France, Mexico and throughout the United States to discuss pioneering approaches employing a high-resolution DMA (Differential Mobility Analyzer), a physical detection method that can be applied to many virus species, particles, and ions in the environment as well as oncology patients and at-risk populations. The availability of physical methods for rapid, reliable, and complete detection of nano-particles opens up a new era in early detection of disease and environmental threats.

Attendees can expect to learn how this innovative technology works, hear examples of a wide array of applications, and first-hand insight on an A-H1N1 case study. A live demonstration of the technology and a poster session is included in the day's activities with a reception at the conclusion.

This exclusive event is by invitation.  Request an invitation at admin@nanobionexus.orgsubject "2009 Symposium".

The Experimental Man Project

In this age of awakening over human and environmental impact from existing and new products and materials, author David Duncan takes “guinea pig” journalism to the very edge of science, building on award-winning articles he wrote for Wired and National Geographic, in which he tested for hundreds of chemical toxins – from pesticides to plastic additives – and millions of genetic markers associated with disease, emotions, and other traits. The idea is to humanize the science by using the example of one person as a kind of everyman assessing not only this bold new world of self-discovery, but also the impact emotionally and philosophically of knowing so much about oneself. In his new book, EXPERIMENTAL MAN: What One Man’s Body Reveals About His Future, Your Health, and Our Toxic World (Wiley, March, 2009), he expands on these tests, he examines his genes, environment, brain, and body, exploring what they reveal about his and his family's future health, beliefs, attitudes, and behavior, and his ancestry, as well as the profound impact of this new self-knowledge on what it means to be human.

Next Generation Power via Man-Made Nanomotors and Nano-enabled Alternative Energy Technologies

New sources of energy are critically important to power our future and our economy. Where will these new sources of alternative energy come from? What novel materials will work best? The remarkable performance of biomotors is inspiring scientists to create synthetic nanomachines that mimic the function of these amazing natural systems. This presentation will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing artificial nanomotors. While artificial nanomotors pale compared to nature biomotors, recent advances indicate significant improvements in the velocity, motion control, cargo-towing force and lifetime of such catalytic nanomotors. The improved performance of chemically-powered artificial nanomotors could pave the way to exciting and important applications and to sophisticated nanoscale devices performing complex tasks. Join us for this exciting program featuring lead-edge nanotechnologies from world renowned nanotech experts.
